VDOS ProQueue Shareware Public Release 3.0
Effective this date the software program titled "VDOS
ProQueue" originally marketed by Marathon Computer Press is now
submitted to the Public Domain as 'Shareware'. All previous
contracts for the software are considered null and void.
I apologize for the delay in getting this software package to
the public, but my hands were held contractually until just
recently. A major Atari ST software & publishing company had an
active contract for the new revision of the program, but they
folded operations before its publish date.
My company Marathon Computer Press released full rights to
the software to me effective this date. Since I was the major
writer and developer, I received the rights and the remaining
manuals for the program gratis. As I worked on the ST version of
the program without pay in my spare time for the company, this is
the way they are allowing me to attempt to regain some
compensation for my toil.
About VDOS ProQueue
Originally developed in 1988, this software was and still is
one of the most powerful desktop assistants for the ATARI ST
computer. It received major updates in 1989, and now in 1991. It
is in use by several large corporations in their R&D departments.
It never quite got off the ground due to lack of financial backing
for advertising. Several months and many thousands of hours went
into the development of the software system, by some of the best
ATARI ST developers.
Over 50 disk, file, and system utilities are built into the
desktop, and there are slots for auto-execution of a total of 101
user definable programs that can be executed with a single click
of your mouse. Just let some of the other "Expensive" desktop
replacements try that! Additionally, the ProQueue system has the
ability to remain Memory Resident, or operate in a Virtual to Disk
mode, or operate at breakneck speeds from a RAM Disk (included).
The type of installation depends on your system limitations, and
your need.
HARD DISK NIRVANA
The true beauty of this system is the way it totally tames
your hard disk, no matter how many folders, or drives you may
have. You tell the software once where your programs are located,
and it's point and click from then on. The time saved is
unbelievable. You may have seen or heard about how the original
VDOS (Located in may PD listings) was a great saver of time...
Well, ProQueue goes much, much farther...
I would not recommend using VDOS ProQueue with a totally
floppy based system unless you have 2 double sided drives. But
that's about the sum of limitations. It will work with all ST's
and nearly all software. The few exceptions are pretty obvious,
ie.. autobooted games, etc... The desktop runs in Medium or High
resolution, but a Low Resolution program VDOSLOW is also in the
archive.
If you consider yourself an ATARI ST "Power User", and need
to tame your hard disk with a wonderful desktop assistant, the
download will be time well spent. And if you like what you see,
you'll want to send for the Vinyl Bound Manual that is chocked
full of descriptive pages that will further assist you in getting
the most out of VDOS ProQueue. And when you consider that some of
the Desktop replacements on the market now cost as much as $70.00,
then you'll be getting a bargain with the Shareware software and
the manual for $18.00 ($15.00 + $3.00 shipping). The initial
printing and materials for these attractive manuals was right in
the vicinity of what I am asking for them now. I've only got
about 200, so if you want one act soon. Just send a check or
money order to me at the above listed address.
Keep in mind that this is a full working copy that has gone
through significant update since it's appearance as a commercial
program in 1988. Once you've tried this desktop.... your others
will be catching dust!!
Sincerely,
J.B. Holder
